The Transparency By Color function works by removing a color such that when you set that color to the background underneath the processed image it looks normal.
 
Below are some sample images where the first image is the original, and the 2 after the original are the process image blended with the following 2 backgrounds:
 
 
 
For demonstration purposes the color removed in processing the images below is fairly simple, but any color can be used.
